Executive FAQ
Technical questions are covered in the technical FAQ
1. What does kinodb do?
kinodb is a unique product. It is used to design, build and deploy database applications.
Business rules and data structure are declared using an advanced meta-model - like an entity
relationship diagram (ERD) on steroids.
kinodb builds the underlying relational database as it is designed.
This means that the components of an application can be tested or approved by users immediately.
The enhanced features of the ERD, enable
kinodb to dynamically build views and forms based on the underlying database
structure. Once the database has been designed, the application is
ready to be deployed. No coding is required. Without the need to test code, development is far
faster.
2. What immediate ROI can I expect from using kinodb?
kinodb immediately delivers:
- Speed of implementation (and time to market)
- Rapid prototyping and user feedback
- Unbelievably short development cycles
- Multiple deployment across different platforms
for no extra effort (or cost)
- Documentation and user help automatically integrated
into the application
The precise ROI for a particular project or development
will vary due to a number of different factors including
size, complexity, changing user requirements, etc. From our experience,
applications which usually take 6-9 months to develop, can be developed
in a matter of weeks.
3. What long term ROI can I expect from using kinodb?
Once an organisation has used kinodb to develop
and deploy an application, the benefits don't stop. kinodb manages the
data and the application. As the user requirements change the enhanced ERD is simply modified
to meet the new requirements and the change is automatically available
to all users. For example, if additional information needs to be captured,
a new field is simply added to the appropriate table in the ERD. From
our experience, it is often quicker to actually make the change, than
document the new requirement. This ensures that the kinodb application
is continually focused on delivering what the business needs, as those
needs change.
Maintaining
and changing code which has been written by a 3rd party is often difficult. Changes often result
in the introduction of new bugs in parts of the system which were
previously working. Essential but time consuming
testing is required to guard against these possibilities. This effort
is not required with kinodb, as there is no code.
With kinodb, testing is used to prove the business logic, not the stability of the
application.
Other benefits of using kinodb include:
- Speed of changes and improvements
- Greater application extensibility
- Instantly deployment to new platforms
as these are adopted by the organisation, with no additional cost or
effort required, for example to remote hand held devices.
4. What happens to my data if I want to stop using kinodb or access it with
another tool?
kinodb uses industry standard relational databases management systems
(RDBMS), such as Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server, to store the data for an application. Therefore
all the data for the application including the structure of the database
can be used by other applications and tools which can interface with chosen
RDBMS.
5. How do I get a demonstration of kinodb?
To back up our bold claims of speed to develop applications, we can arrange
for a consultant to build on your site an application of your specification
in two days for FREE, with no obligations.
If you would like to learn more about kinodb, to see a demonstration
of the technology or to arrange your two free days of consulting, please
